Chini Ka Rauza, Agra

Chini Ka Rauza (China Tomb) is the mausoleum of Shukrullah Shirazi Afzal Khan, who was a Persian poet. He was also the Prime Minister in the court of Shan Jahan, the Mughal emperor who built the Taj Mahal, which is one among the 7 wonders of the world.  Due to the glazed tile decoration, this monument earned the nick name China Tomb as it is believed that tiles were brought from China.

It is one of the least visited monuments in Agra. A couple of foreign tourists were religiously exploring the glazed tile work when I visited this place. There were also a group of local children who were sitting and discussing some “serious matter” rather than running around. Maybe they’ve decided to take a break from raising hell in the neighborhood at least for the time being.
