Jamia Masjid, Srinagar: Where Kashmir’s Muslims come to pray

25th February 2014: After spending 3 days in Kashmir valley, I’ll be bidding goodbye to the heaven on earth and leave for Jammu today afternoon. I still have to visit a handful of attractions en route airport and Jamia Masjid is one among them. Built in 1400 AD, it is the 5th largest mosque in India. Close to 1 million Muslims offer prayers in this mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.

There are 370 wooden pillars in this mosque.

Admission is free but a small donation is expected at the entrance. You will have to remove footwear before entering the mosque. Wear modest and conservative cloths. Admission to visitors will be restricted during prayer times.
